Questar Gas earns award for protecting the environment through energy efficiency

SALT LAKE CITY – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Questar Gas with a 2010 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for its outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by delivering information and services to its customers to increase energy efficiency. Questar Gas’s accomplishments were recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 18, 2010.

Questar Gas, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2007, is being honored for their work to increase market share of energy-efficient ENERGY STAR qualified homes through comprehensive outreach, education, and marketing programs. Some of the highlights included recruiting builders to the ENERGY STAR New Homes program in 2009. During the year 10 percent of all new homes qualified as ENERGY STAR Homes. In addition, the company’s efforts helped market ENERGY STAR Homes, appliances and programs to more than 65,000 people who attended seven Parade of Homes events.

Last year alone Americans with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved $17 billion on their energy bills and reduced greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 30 million vehicles.

“We are pleased to receive recognition for our partnership with ENERGY STAR and our work to educate our customers about the value of energy efficiency,” said Ron Jibson, President and CEO, Questar Gas. “By purchasing ENERGY STAR Homes, purchasing ENERGY STAR appliances and participating in other related programs, our customers are conserving energy, saving money and protecting our environment.”

The ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Awards for Program Delivery are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce pollution, resulting in significant cost savings. Award winners are selected from more than 17,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.

“Questar Gas is leading the way in creating and implementing solutions to climate change through greater energy efficiency,” said Gina McCarthy, EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation. “Questar Gas has helped its customers understand how they can help protect our environment while saving energy and money.”
